Therapy is tailor-made to each individual, couple, and family. The amount of time it takes is directly correlated to your history/intensity of trauma, existing emotional regulation skills, and how you actively apply what you learn in sessions. I've had clients heal from single incident traumas in as little as four weeks and some heal from complex trauma in as little as six months using EMDR. Likewise, I have some who are still with me after a year. We will go at the pace that is safe for your nervous system.
Therapy is a joint effort. Progress depends on the work put into the sessions and how you apply what you learn in your everyday life.
Therapy is tailor-made to each individual, couple, and family. The frequency of sessions is directly correlated to your history/intensity of trauma and how it is impacting your daily functioning. I typically recommend weekly during phases one through three and taper off to biweekly or monthly starting with phase four if it is clinically feasible. The frequency can be more or less depending on your functioning.

We provide children with a word of the week. The word of the week will typically be an emotion, and it will involve learning how to regulate it. Parents can help by reminding their children of the word of the week and remaining emotionally regulated with and in front of their children.
Yes, in most cases. Therapy can provide children with the tools for managing their big emotions and getting their needs met. As a result, there's typically a decrease in the behaviors that led to the need for therapy.
By attending family therapy sessions and implementing new tools, tensions in your family begin to ease. Everyone learns new coping mechanisms and how to respect other’s boundaries. The relationship between family members heals and strengthens once mutual respect and empathy flourish.
This is a common issue. Although you can’t force your child to attend therapy, you can have an open conversation with them about how it will benefit the family dynamic and your relationship. They can also have a free consultation with me to get their questions answered.
